All in for Healthy Skin!
Let's be honest, we all want healthy skin but everyone seems to have a different idea of what exactly "healthy" skin looks like. As a holistic esthetician, to me, truly healthy skin functions the way it was created to, in its most optimal way. So what does that look like? Firm, hydrated and bouncy. Skin even in coloration with little to no redness. Does healthy skin breakout? Yes. A random pimple here and there does not mean your skin is unhealthy. Consistent acne and the inflammation that accompanies it could indicate that your skin may need assistance. What kind of assistance you might ask? Topical treatments can help but keep in mind that much of what we see on the surface began below the superficial top layer of the skin. The foods we eat, the products we use on our face, hair and body, the amount and quality of sleep, hormones, age and the environment all play an integral role in the health of our skin. As an esthetician, I take all of this into consideration. In my experience, acne, discolorations, wrinkles and such tell so much more about the overall health of the person than what is being presented on the surface of the face.
So how does one go about achieving healthy skin? The same way you would go about achieving good over all health- taking good care of it. Exercising, eating healthy foods, drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep all can make a difference.
Our skin is intuitive and if we listen closely and pay attention, it is in constant communication with us. Too many late nights out? Your skin could be dehydrated and dull looking. Stress and tension can show up as breakouts, pronounced fine lines and wrinkles. Pay attention and keep a good skincare routine. Cleanse, hydrate , moisturize and wear a mineral based sunscreen daily. Most importantly, take care of yourself as a whole. While the quality and ingredients of the products you are using in your home care routine are important, caring for your body as a whole can significantly impact the health of your skin.
Are you all in for healthy skin?
Wishing you all love, peace and healthy skin,
