The 411 on Microneedling aka Collagen Induction Therapy.

Looking for a little more correction or refinement to your skin? Microneedling may be just the treatment to get you there. Here’s some information on this minimally invasive, collagen-stimulating treatment to help you decide if microneedling is right for you and your skin.

What exactly is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy involves the use of a sterile, multi needle cartridge and a motorized handheld device that gently creates micro punctures in the skin. The body perceives these punctures as wounds and responds by increasing collagen production and thus improving the appearance of your skin.

Miconeedling is good for the following skin concerns:

  • Fine lines

  • Uneven texture/ acne scars

  • Large pore size

  • Discoloration

  • Minor skin laxity

What does a treatment entail?

First we begin by cleansing the skin. Next an enzyme treatment is used to gently exfoliate the surface of your skin. A numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes and then removed before beginning. We utilize an AnteAGE stem cell and hyaluronic serum to assist in gliding the microneedling device across the treatment area in overlapping passes. Once finished, our LED panel is used along with a soothing hydrating mask. Clients are sent home with an AnteAGE aftercare kit and no other products are to be applied for 24 hours.

What can you expect?

Most clients do not experience any discomfort during the treatment. For the 24 hours following the treatment, you will experience redness and a windburned like feeling. Skin will feel tight. Some clients may experience slight peeling in the following days. The AnteAGE serum should be applied to help with any discomfort. On day 2, the skin should be more calm but may still feel a bit tight. Most clients find they are able to resume their regular activities on day 2 or3.

Excercise and any outdoor activities should be completely avoided for 24 hours post procedure. No additional exfoliation or exfoliating products should be used 3 days prior to or for 7 days following treatment. This includes retinols, acne treatments and cleansers containing any acids.

While this treatment does provide some immediate rejuvenation, real results occur as the body continues to build new collagen. For optimal results, we recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

My thoughts on microneedling.

I love this treatment because it works with the natural functions of the skin to heal and repair, assisting your skin to produce more collagen naturally. As I approach my 50’s, I have found microneedling to provide my skin with an extra little “kick” in firming and toning up my face while addressing textural issues. My pores are smaller and less noticeable while my fine lines and forehead wrinkles have softened up quite nicely.

Is this a substitute for laser resurfacing or a more aggressive skin tightening procedure? No, it is not. I have found it to be a good “half way” treatment before maybe considering more aggressive interventions. Meaning: sadly, it will not eradicate my jowls or turkey gobble.

I hope you found this information helpful. Let me know if you have any questions!

Wishing you love, peace and plump skin,

Renée
